I contracted hep C years ago and went through a year of treatment with interferon shots and pills. Soooooooooo?

the infectious disease specialist that gave me the treatment finally after I'd been back to check the viral load in my blood (normal blood tests will always give a false positive) and he told me I was wasting my time with the tests, it had been almost three years and it was gone, and I do believe he said cured. Does anyone know if it actually can be cured or just put into remission? Thank You in advance for your wisdom.
