Is my story good enough to be published?

What you've written is definitely original. (And, incidentally, I would never steal someone else's concepts as I've written two novels myself so am capable of imagining plots which are uniquely mine, plus I'm an ethical person!) From the excerpt which you've posted, it really isn't possible for me to know where you mean to take the plot. Do you have a plan for an entire novel? Not to disillusion you, but it is very very difficult to become a legitimately published author; if you were to interrogate the majority of the currently best-selling authors, almost unanimously they would regale you with tales of their numerous rejections prior to their achieving publication. If you are unknown, inexperienced, and previously unpublished, the odds of your mcript's being accepted by a publishing company are astronomically stacked against you. Still, your story may be the "exception to the rule". You need to finish the story; if perhaps your idea is original enough, well written, and professional in its format, you may indeed have produced a novel worthy of publication. The publishing process is exceedingly complex, and you will require someone knowledgeable to ist you in pursuing your goal of publication. My advice? Complete your story; see how it goes. Buy a copy of "Writer's Market" for excellent advice in regard to the publishing process and names of publishing companies which may accept unsolicited mcripts, also lists of literary agents who might represent you, as most publishers will deal only through agents. (I self-published my two esoteric novels of Atlantis, since I cared not to pursue the course of rejection which surely would have been my fate had I endeavored actually to sell my mcripts; that decision may well have been a cop-out, but my desire was to see my stories in print, and I have realized that dream.) Anyway, I wish you luck with your writing, whatever avenue you may choose to follow!
